Welcome to the Antique Trading Post—a gathering of terrifying tales of objects with, shall we say, a life of their own? This edition features stories by JJ Walker
, , , Bob Holland (1904), James Montague Rhodes (1923), and .Enjoy!
You feel it immediately when you enter The Antique Trading Post, a sense that something already knows you're here, a presence watching to see what object draws you near.
Will it be the box of postcards from a bygone era, with untold stories waiting to reveal themselves?
Or A Victorian Photo?
Post-mortem photography, photographing the dead, was a Victorian practice. How many of those photos you rummaged through at The Antique Trading Post were of people who had passed on?
THE DEAD WOMAN’S PHOTOGRAPH
Virgil Hoyt is a photographer’s assistant up at St. Paul, and a man of a good deal of taste. He has been in search of the picturesque all over the West, and hundreds of miles to the north in Canada, and can speak three or four Indian dialects, and put a canoe through the rapids. That is to say, he is a man of an adventurous sort and no dreamer. He can f…
Maybe a vintage lamp is more to your liking.
Take my advice. If you buy an antique lamp, you’ll want to change the lightbulb.
Lightbulb by J.J. Walker
When Eleanor had been welcomed into that little house in the middle of nowhere, passing a front yard that needed weeding, stepping over old mail into the living room, she’d wondered if the lamp Rosa had just pointed to was the one she wanted to talk about. Wondered if its three legs and wide shade belonged to the same lamp she’d mentioned on the phone.
Who doesn’t love an old doll?
We have a wide selection of dolls (and mannequins) at The Antique Trading Post.

The question is, which one can you afford to take home? This one, perhaps?
What better place to find props for your independent horror movie?
Justin, the director of photography on the indie film, The Haunted Mansion, found two perfect set pieces at The Antique Trading Post—even though shopping for set pieces is WAY below his pay grade.
Props
The bell above the door clanked. Rust and age had ruined its tinkle. Justin stepped inside, immediately overwhelmed by the smell. As he ventured further, he spied a sleek black cat slithering between towering shelves. A gaunt woman with antique vellum skin watched him from behind the counter.
The Ninth Harmonic
Justin delivered the Polaroid and hand mirror as requested, even though he wasn’t exactly gracious about it. He lit up when he saw Lily’s reaction. The writer/director/producer thought his finds were brilliant.
Another customer, we’ll call her Melody, found an old rotary phone and beautiful mahogany table with an attached chair. Nostalgia won and she bought both. After all, they seemed like a set. Imagine her surprise when she got her first call.
For Whom the Phone Rings
The smell of aged paper and varnish, mingling with the scent of cedar, the inside of an old hope chest hit me when I opened the door. Crossing the threshold, it may have been the dim light or the way the bulbs flickered triggering a feeling as if I’d entered another era. A gramophone in the far corner played a 1920s jazz tune from a warped record, enhan…
Dollhouses are supposed to be mini versions of an idyllic life. This doll’s house takes mimicking reality a bit too far.
Remember, no returns.
THE HAUNTED DOLLS' HOUSE
"I suppose you get stuff of that kind through your hands pretty often?" said Mr. Dillet, as he pointed with his stick to an object which shall be described when the time comes: and when he said it, he lied in his throat, and knew that he lied.
We offer a full selection of guns, some from the Civil War.
If you do purchase a weapon, we encourage you to keep it in a locked box.
Strike True or Stray Cruel by Jeffrey Cummins
He held the box in both hands. It had a brittle metal bar on top pinned under two hoops. It was slim and wide making it appear longer. Both the bottom and the lid were encased in old flaking leather. Stained from greasy fingers and grimy years.
