This tiny tale was inspired by my recent ghost-hunting trip to Fort Columbia and a timely prompt from Miguel S.

Echoes
Footsteps echoed from somewhere deep inside the old battery. I couldn't tell which direction the sound originated. The labyrinth had a way of twisting and turning things around. Earlier, I could have sworn I heard a man whisper, "Be careful." The disembodied voice sounded more like a warning than concern.
Of course, I had a lot more to say about my experience exploring these ‘empty’ spaces!
Take a walk with me, down the stairs into the belly of Battery Murphy.

Speaking of (still occupied) deserted spaces—I offer this 20th-century ghost-hunting tale of ghastly proportions. We'll say this one is fiction since we can’t ask Algernon.
The Empty House, by Algernon Blackwood (1906)

With a last glance at the moonlit square, they passed quickly in, and the door slammed behind them with a roar that echoed prodigiously through empty halls and passages.
Meet Khatalina Martinez
My friend, Khatalina is a spiritual healer, priestess, paranormal fiction writer, and photographer. She also conducts psychic intervention and will join me on a few ghost-hunting adventures this year. 👀
Haunted Dairy Farm is a (micro) creative nonfiction piece describing one of Khatalina’s many spiritual encounters.
I’ve long admired Khatalina’s psychic abilities. In this video, she and her sister Diana discuss various experiences with haunted objects, from jewelry to masks and spirit dolls.

Caveat Ghost Hunter, by
Basin Springs raked it in on ghost tours. October was their busiest month. The Crimson Moon Hotel ghost tour expanded to three tours day and/or night. Two at night, plus an afternoon matinee.
It would be a return pilgrimage for me.
It would be the same tour. Different partner.
“Don’t think I don’t know this a test,” Louise said when she opened the door.
“What do you mean?” I asked. Our tour wasn’t until eight in the evening. And it was only nine in the morning now. I was looking at a very long day ahead of me.
Or, maybe I am the ghost!
Living or dead, some things never change.
